Local Family Thankful for Community After Fire Destroys Home
On October 5, a devastating blaze destroyed a townhome on E Spring, leaving the Sanders family, Tony, Jenny, and they three children, Kailee, 7, Jai-Lyn, 6, and Mikah, 5, and Allen McDonald, with nothing. Or so they thought. They quickly realized what they did have was a generous, caring community that immediately stepped up to help them rebuild their lives.
When we contacted the family to see if there was anything they still needed, Tony told us he is amazed at how much support they have received from friends, family, and even complete strangers touched by their plight. Donations have poured in, helping the family to replace much needed clothing and household items lost in the fire.
Bonner Springs Elementary has been especially helpful, holding a Clothing & Coin Drive as well as a Popcorn/Movie Benefit.
The family is overwhelmed by the generosity they’ve received, and wanted to thank the community for helping them recover from this tragedy.
Although they may have to at least temporarily move from Bonner, possibly to Tonganoxie or Basehor, their girls will be allowed to continue to attend BSE, providing a bit of stability in their suddenly upended lives.
One thing that can’t be replaced, sadly, is the family dog, who didn’t make it out of the home. Rest in peace, Mochi.
